This lengthy set of homespun country-rock pairs dusty textures, muted pedal steel, strings, and horns with Zach Bryan’s rough, wounded bellow. Its grief and breakup ballads can be cathartic and tender, but forgettable midtempo songs, generic writing, and overextended arrangements make the 24-track sequence uneven.
The album contains good songs and occasional moments of striking emotional power, but no clear equivalent to Bryan's strongest work.
