Blends country storytelling, honky-tonk bounce, pedal steel, mariachi color, and grand melodies. Balances vivid narratives against clunky phrasing and murky effects, retaining warmth.

Critic reviews
- Pitchfork: 7/10(opens in new tab)by Jayson GreeneAug 25, 2026
Flowers’ warm, robust midrange makes his transition to country singing unusually convincing.
- Aug 24, 2026
It’s the storytelling, the nostalgic recollection, and the allegories woven in between it all that make the album so superior and fresh feeling.
- Beats Per Minute: 70/100(opens in new tab)by Ray FinlaysonAug 31, 2026
While musically spirited and infectious, Flowers’ lyrics do have a few instances where his clunky phrasing distracts from everything else.
- PopMatters: 7/10(opens in new tab)by John AmenAug 25, 2026
Brandon Flowers’ melodies are largely airy, ebullient, even life-affirming. Articulating the troubles we face, he also, and perhaps ultimately, pays homage to our resilience.
