Fuses electronic pop, dance rhythms, alt-R&B, glitchy textures, and hooks into confident spectacle. Balances euphoria with anxiety and introspection, though brevity sometimes limits development.

Critic reviews
- NME: 5/5(opens in new tab)by Nicolas-Tyrell ScottSep 25, 2026
Popstar’ is an equilibrium of confidence and introspection on which Tinashe lets the world in
- Paste: B+(opens in new tab)by Cassidy SollazzoSep 28, 2026
Popstar is such a strong and multifaceted statement that it’s hard to imagine she’ll ever go without one.
- Pitchfork: 9/10(opens in new tab)by Anna GacaSep 30, 2026
Its rhythmic sensibility works both song-to-song and as a full-album listen. It’s fresh in the best way—immediately accessible, a little bit avant-garde.
- Beats Per Minute: 75/100(opens in new tab)by Mary ChineyOct 5, 2026
What makes the album good is that it refuses to treat the word as a prize.
