Critic reviews

PopMatters: 8/10(opens in new tab)by Maria Lockard
Sep 29, 2026
The album’s greatest strength is arguably “Step Away Blues”, which showcases Giddens’ vocal range and the cutting fiddle of co-producer Dirk Powell.
Pitchfork: 7/10(opens in new tab)by Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Sep 17, 2026
The album reconnects with Carolina folk traditions while incorporating Giddens’ broader musical explorations.
